Buenos Aires is home to over 1,200 tech startups as well as a thriving business scene in agriculture and manufacturing, offering interns exposure to a diverse business landscape. Choose a placement aligned with your interests and intern 15–20 hours per week. Outside your internship, explore the cultural wonders of Buenos Aires, often called “The Paris of South America.” An optional 15-hour embedded course prepares you professionally, with optional classes available through ASU Online to earn U.S. college credit. Workshops and site visits provide practical skills, while excursions and local experiences bring the city’s culture to life.

Your internship abroad includes one overnight excursion plus day trips with other CIEE interns and College Study Abroad students. Participate in an empanada making workshop and a private tango lesson followed by a live dance performance. You’ll leave Buenos Aires with a clearer sense of your future and unforgettable experiences shared with peers and locals alike.

The Destination

Welcome to Buenos Aires, where the rhythm of Tango pulses in colorful neighborhoods as your future takes shape.

Buenos Aires is a city of contrasts, where European influence meets South American flair. As Argentina’s capital, this bustling metropolis of over 3 million contributes nearly 30% of the nation’s GDP. Regional offices for multinational companies like Google and Microsoft can be found here, making it a hub for professional connections. Historic plazas, vibrant markets and iconic theaters like the Teatro Colón reflect the local cultural heritage while trendy cafes and boutique shops show off the city’s modern spirit.

In your spare time, visit lively milongas (dance events) to witness Argentina’s Tango tradition, founded here in the working-class neighborhoods of the city in the late 19th-century. Neighborhoods like San Telmo and Recoleta showcase colonial charm alongside contemporary design and the local culinary scene highlights traditional flavors like empanadas (savory-filled pastries) and alfajores (dulce de leche cookies). With its unique mix of business, culture and lifestyle, Buenos Aires offers interns both professional opportunities and immersive cultural experiences.
