Golf is Global in Amsterdam

Top-Rated Course in Amsterdam
Amsterdamse Golf Club, established in 1934, is one of the oldest and most prestigious golf clubs in the Netherlands. It is located in the suburb of Halfweg, approximately 7 miles west of central Amsterdam, making it one of the closest full-length courses to the city. The club features an 18-hole championship course that was redesigned in 1990 by renowned architect Donald Steel. The par-72 layout stretches over 6,675 yards from the back tees and offers a mix of heathland and parkland features, with strategic water hazards and mature tree lines.

Did You Know?
Long before modern golf took root, the Dutch played kolf—a club-and-ball game indoors amid taverns and malie (sprawling grounds). By 1769, there were around 200 kolf courses in Amsterdam, including over 30 roofed venues, making it a lively precursor to today's golf culture.

Compact geography meets golf
Amsterdam’s compact geography means space for full golf courses is scarce, yet the region supports multiple 9- and 18-hole clubs, driving ranges, and indoor golf simulators. The city’s creative use of space has made it a hub for urban golf innovations, from rooftop putting greens to “street golf” events played in historic districts.
