Since 1947, CIEE has been in pursuit of its mission, "to help people gain understanding, acquire knowledge, and develop skills for living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world."

Our services to people studying, working, and teaching abroad are more important than ever.

CIEE has sent students abroad since 1947; since the late 1960s, we have been developing study abroad programs on behalf of the CIEE Academic Consortium. The first CIEE Study Center, opened in Leningrad in 1966, is still in operation. CIEE partners with overseas universities to provide direct matriculation options, creates CIEE courses to add to the offerings, and staffs each Study Center with CIEE-employed Resident Staff who provide co-curricular activities and around-the-clock student services.

We offer quality academics with opportunities for cultural engagement such as excursions, homestays, volunteer opportunities, and internships to provide the highest quality study abroad experiences.

CIEE Study Center programs are carefully developed, academically challenging, and have specific goals and learning outcomes. United by our desire to make every program as good as it can be, we judge each on the basis of four guiding principles: quality, service, responsibility, and efficiency.

The CIEE Academic Consortium Board (ACB) formally approves and then evaluates each of our offering. Evaluations are available for your review online. Any issue that arises during that formal process is discussed and addressed. In this way, CIEE programs improve continually, year by year, ensuring enduring educational experiences.
