Germany’s Beautifully Different Nature
First of all: I’m from Columbus, Georgia. In Columbus, an inescapable, yet soothing, buzz perpetually flows through the trees. In Columbus, the trees are tightly tied together by interlooping vines. In Columbus, impressive vultures with 6 foot wingspans roam the skies.
Now, I live in Bad Laasphe, Germany. In Bad Laasphe, only bees dare to interrupt nature's serene silence. In Bad Laasphe, emerald green moss invades nearly every tree trunk. In Bad Laasphe, slugs and snails leisurely munch on leaves.
One thing that has been drilled into me here at language camp is: nothing is weird, nothing is strange - only different. And although I miss Columbus’ insect buzz, Bad Laasphe’s bees keep me company.
A very - very different beauty, but beauty all the same.
