Golf is Global in Kyoto

Golf Post-War
The Kyoto Golf Club, established in 1948, was the first new golf course built in Japan after World War II. Founded by the U.S. military for its stationed troops, it features two 18-hole courses; Kamigamo and Funayama featuring serene landscapes reminiscent of Kyoto’s famed gardens.

Walk Ons Welcomed
For a more accessible and down-to-earth experience, the Kyoto–Ōhara Public Course is a public, hilly layout just outside Kyoto. It evokes the charm of the 1970s Japanese golfing scene; short, scenic, and welcoming to walk-ons.

Women’s Golf in Japan
In 1926, Japan hosted its first major women’s golf tournament, an event covered in Fujin Gahō magazine. Elite women from Kyoto and Tokyo took to the fairways, blending golf with the grace and refinement of Japanese cultural traditions.
