Travel Experiences for High School Teachers

Develop teaching skills and build a global professional network.

Continue Growing as an Educator

As a high school educator, you open the world to your students with every lesson you teach. At CIEE, we want to open the world to you!

Our mission is to make academically-aligned study abroad programs an integral part of the U.S. high school experience. This is only meaningful if it goes beyond just expanding opportunities for students. We want to provide you with the chance to travel, learn, connect with like-minded educators, and develop your skills, too. When you experience global education firsthand, you will bring back new perspectives, fresh ideas, and transformative lessons that re-energize your classroom and inspire the next generation of global citizens.

CIEE professional development opportunities for educators—whether paid or covered by CIEE—may be subject to school or district approval, depending on school location. These events are offered at different times throughout the year, both in the U.S. and around the world.

See a Summer Abroad Program in Action

When 10+ students from your high school join a CIEE High School Summer Abroad program, we extend an opportunity for you to experience a program firsthand. This trip is designed as a Professional Development opportunity to shadow classes and student activities alongside other U.S. educators. You will meet local teachers and instructors, and exchange best practices for engaging students in their content areas. The best part? No teaching duties! Enjoy traveling, networking with like-minded peers, and gaining fresh inspiration for your own teaching practice.

During this free, 5-day trip, you will:

  • Travel with a small cohort of educators to an incredible destination in Europe, Latin America, Africa, or even Asia. Not as a chaperone, but as a professional!
  • Observe interactive classes with local CIEE teaching staff.
  • Tag along with student participants on excursions and cultural activities.
  • Meet host family members.
  • Discover and discuss new instructional strategies.
  • Come home reenergized and with a renewed enthusiasm for education.

Return home with 10 hours of professional development. (Subject to school or district approval).
