My exchange experiences so far

Three years ago, I went to Exeter, England, for 1 month. I enjoyed learning English, living with host family, experiencing new culture. Those experiences, which stuck in the middle of my mind, make me want to become an exchange student again.

That is why I’m now Roll Tide!!, a phrase trademarked by Alabama Crimson Tide, a famous football team in college football. The funny thing is my host father in England was in British Royal Navy, moreover, my host father here in the U.S. was in the U.S. army, you cannot find any coincidence like this except being an exchange student.

Being exchange student is easy, that is what people think it is. However, in the reality, it is tough and hard. I have to deal with every problem by myself, while learning new language, and adapting into different culture, especially Eastern and Western culture, by myself, all by alone. Many people think that exchange student’s life is chill, that they don’t have to take things seriously and just travel around. DEDICATE is the word best describe our life. We have to take care of everything by ourselves, everything since you waking up to turning of the light to sleep, for example, making up the room, being on time to the school, learning language, studying in every classes, solving every problem, everything by yourself. You could argue that you could just call your parents at your home country and ask them for solution, yeah you could probably do that, however, more you call your parents, more homesickness you would feel.

Since I came to the U.S., I know that I’ve grown, I could realize that I’m more responsible, and I become a better person. After every struggles faced, after every problems solved, i learned, I experienced. Especially experiences from being foreigner, exchange student, and yes different culture, and different language.
