The Destination
Welcome to Seoul, where ancient palaces stand alongside modern skyscrapers.
With a population of more than 9 million, Seoul’s energetic, cosmopolitan atmosphere blends culture, innovation, and tradition. Take a glimpse into the nation’s enduring traditions as you tour historic landmarks like Bukchon Hanok Village and the Five Grand Palaces, built by the kings of the Joseon Dynasty in 1395. Then, discover Seoul’s innovative spirit as you see neon K-pop billboards, whirring delivery scooters, and 17,000 espresso bars lining its streets.
Slip into the rhythm of contemporary Korean life. Explore Seoul’s many traditional markets, like Gwangjang, the oldest in the city, and street-food eateries in neighborhoods like Hapjeong. Meanwhile, Hongdae and Changdong’s vibrant karaoke venues and street art will help you discover the spirit of South Korean pop culture. Here, modern architecture stands alongside symbols of tradition like jade-roofed palaces and earthen jars of fermenting gochujang, creating a vibrant atmosphere where history and modernity coexist.
Beyond the concrete and neon lights, discover the natural beauty of the meandering Han River and surrounding mountains. Don’t leave without savoring Korean BBQ favorites like bulgogi (marinated beef), Samgyeopsal (pork belly), and Banchan (side dishes)!
