About Alicante

With a population approaching 350,000, Alicante is a thriving Spanish city. Located on the Mediterranean coast, Alicante is an inviting place for students to begin their exploration of Spain or continue a previous journey. In recent times, Alicante has experienced a development boom and rapid population growth. Students will see modern architecture and Internet cafés alongside historic buildings, and shopping malls next to centuries-old open-air markets. Although fast becoming a cosmopolitan and multicultural city, Alicante retains a distinct Spanish flavor.

Where You'll Study

Universidad de Alicante

The Universidad de Alicante is one of Spain’s newest universities, located three miles outside the city of Alicante. Established to serve the higher education needs of the province of Alicante, the Universidad de Alicante offers its 35,000 students the benefits of a modern campus with an international atmosphere. The CIEE Study Center offices are located on the main campus in San Vicente and provide students direct access to University facilities.

Thoughts From Abroad

Located on the Mediterranean coast, Alicante has been a warm, beautiful, and inviting city for many past civilizations (Carthaginians, Greeks, Romans, etc.). Nowadays, Alicante displays the features of a contemporary and cosmopolitan city, famous for its rich cultural and historic heritage, as well as for its social and economic dynamism. This program provides many opportunities to discover that unique Mediterranean touch. You’ll fall in love with the city, its people, and its customs. The Mediterranean way of life will help you meet alicantinos and build strong and long-lasting friendships. Your daily interaction with host families, local students, CIEE staff, along with the social and cultural immersion, will dramatically improve your Spanish language skills. While in Alicante you will live, learn, enjoy, and dream in Spanish!
