The active participation of CIEE in collaborative associations benefits the countless educators, students, and educators who rely on CIEE to advance their collective voice. With over 60 years of experience in international education, CIEE is active with, and recognized by, the following organizations:
U.S. Department of State
The U.S. Department of State has designated CIEE as an Exchange Visitor Program in accordance with the administrative regulations issued under the Mutual Educational and Cultural Exchange Act of 1961. This designation is applied for on a biannual basis by CIEE and granted by the U.S. Department of State. The CIEE USA High School Program is identified as the program number P-3-05143 and is approved to provide J-1 Visa participants with the form DS-2019. All exchange visitor applicants must have a SEVIS–generated DS-2019 issued by a Department of State designated sponsor, which they submit when they are applying for their exchange visitor visa. The consular officer must verify the DS-2019 record electronically through the SEVIS system in order to process an exchange visitor visa application to conclusion. Through the U.S. Department of State sponsored high school exchange program, foreign secondary school students enter the United States to complete up to one year of academic study at an accredited public or private secondary school.
CIEE administers several Grant Programs on behalf of the Department of State.

Council on Standards for International Educational Travel (CSIET)
CSIET is a private non-profit organization that monitors the quality of youth exchange program throughout the United States. CSIET has identified CIEE as a reputable international youth exchange program and therefore has been granted listing on the current year’s Advisory List.
Alliance for International Education and Cultural Exchange
The Alliance is an association of 79 non-governmental organizations comprising the international educational and cultural exchange community in the United States. CIEE is a member of the Alliance which supports our mission "to help people gain understanding, acquire knowledge, and develop skills for living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world."
The President’s Volunteer Service Award
The President’s Volunteer Service Award honors individuals for their civic participation and commitment to others. CIEE is a Certifying Organization for the award. CIEE students must participate in community service while on the CIEE program and are therefore eligible for the award – past CIEE Students have been awarded!
NAFSA: Association of International Educators
NAFSA provides a forum for international educators to share resources and information on the field of study abroad. CIEE is active in NAFSA conferences and intellectual discourse to help further the mission of exchange.
The Forum focuses on developing and implementing standards of good practice, encouraging and supporting research initiatives, and offering educational programs and resources to its members. Its mission is to help to improve education abroad programs to benefit the students that participate in them. The Forum is recognized by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission as the Standards Development Organization (SDO). CIEE participates in Forum conferences.
CIEE has partnered with the Korea Foundation, a non-profit organization aimed at promoting awareness and understanding of Korea throughout the international community, and to enhance goodwill and friendship through the implementation of various international exchange programs. CIEE offers two short term, all expenses paid, scholarship programs for American high school and university students to learn about Korean culture firsthand.

Becas High School, Un año Académico en Estados Unidos
In partnership, The Foundation Pedro Barrié de la Maza and The Foundation Amancio Ortega created the International High School Scholarship Program in 2009. It is the first partnership project between the two foundations.
The International High School Scholarship Program’s objective is to offer scholarships to tenth grade students from Galicia, Spain for an academic year exchange experience in the U.S. through CIEE. The scholarship rewards applicants for academic excellence and financial need, with a goal to broaden perspectives and English ability.

Grant Programs
CIEE is designated by the U.S. Department of State as an administrator of several Grant Programs for students who have been selected to participate in:
- CBYX (Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange)
- FLEX (Future Leaders Exchanges)
- YES (Youth Exchange and Study)
- A-SMYLE (American Serbia & Montenegro Youth Leadership Excange)
Other Activities
CIEE is an active leader in advocacy for international education. CIEE also publishes countless publications based on extensive research within the field.
