Biography

  • Kathleen Sideli recently retired as associate vice president of Overseas Study at Indiana University (IU), where she was responsible for study abroad programs on all IU campuses.

    Kathleen has been active in the field of study abroad for more than four decades. She was a founding member and the first president of the Forum on Education Abroad; has contributed many chapters and articles to NAFSA and other publications; served as chair of CIEE's Academic Consortium Board; and launched the National Data Collection Initiative through the Institute of International Education and SECUSSA. Kathleen also has served on the National Review Panel of the Gilman International Scholarship Program, the National Advisory Board of Butler University's Institute for Study Abroad, the National Advisory Council of the Center for Education Abroad at Arcadia University, and the Curriculum Committee of IES Abroad. She received the NAFSA Region VI Leo Dowling Award of Excellence in 2001 for "Compassion, Integrity and Leadership," and CIEE's recognition for "Outstanding Contribution to the Field and Dedication to the Mission of CIEE" in 1999.

    Kathleen holds a doctorate and a master’s degree in Spanish literature from Indiana University and a bachelor’s degree in Spanish language and literature from Molloy College.
