Grants for Exchange Students

Students who qualify can study in the United States with CIEE under a fully paid scholarship with a stipend, through one of several diplomatically oriented grant programs, approved by the U.S Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). These are great opportunities for those who otherwise might not be able to study abroad.

Scholarship students bring a high level of cultural exchange and interaction, good English skills and academic achievement. Past participants have done amazing things – like initiate, plan, and coordinate multistate, weeklong youth-leadership conferences, even recruiting adults to lead sessions on sustainability, tolerance, and understanding.

CIEE works with internationally recognized scholarship programs, including:

Afshan Hussain, CIEE High School USA alumnus and YES grant recipient, scored higher than any other student in Pakistan’s 2014 Aga Khan University Higher Secondary School Certificate exams – an extraordinary achievement.

Scholarship programs have special features that enrich the student-exchange experience. Students participate in enhanced enrichment activities designed to educate them about diversity, representative democracy, leadership, entrepreneurship, and volunteerism. Depending on the program, you might travel to Washington, D.C., to meet with government leaders and other grant students, participate in midyear and reentry meetings, or take part in important events like International Education Week or the Global Youth Service Day.

What People are Saying

  • "Teachers asked me to present about my country throughout the whole year of high school. The students were very interested to hear about Islam, my culture, and our way of life. They came to really respect my culture."
