As a current enrollee or alumni of CIEE TEFL, we’re excited to offer the opportunity to teach English in the vast country of Russia.
Through our partners, we’re able to provide placement assistance in various private schools where you could be teaching students varying from preschool aged to adulthood.

CIEE TEFL Placement Assistance in Russia is available to all CIEE TEFL students and alumni of the 150-hour TEFL Certification course. Placement Assistance does not include pre-departure or in-country support from CIEE TEFL.

Explore the city’s golden palaces, pastel-colored mansions, landscaped parks, gardens, and canals. Spend a night at the ballet, or afternoon at the Russian bathhouse (banya). Russia is home to beautiful and complex sites like the Red Square, St. Basil’s Cathedral, Lenin’s Mausoleum, the KGB Museum, Gorky Park, and the Bolshoi Theatre - all ready and waiting to be explored.
Teachers could teach many different age groups varying from preschool aged students to adults, depending on their preferences and placement availability. Most teachers work 25-30 hours a week and can expect to spend up to 40 hours a week at their school for lesson preparation or training sessions. Those assigned to teaching adults may help with international English exam preparations.
The salaries are very competitive for your work with students., and can vary for each teacher and by location. Salaries will cover the cost of housing, everyday living essentials, and extracurriculars.
Positions are available in various private schools with ages ranging from preschool to adulthood. For teachers working with adults, many help with international English language exam preparations. Schools are located all over Russia including major and smaller cities.
Teaching is usually 25-30 hours a week, but you could physically be at the school up to 40 hours a week like a typical position in the US. Hours are likely to be during normal school hours, but because there are a variety of positions, that could differ.
There are a few simple requirements. These, plus a sense of adventure and a desire to cross cultural boundaries and engage with people eager to learn English, will make you a great candidate.

- Citizenship in Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, or the United States
- Enrollment in or completion of CIEE’s 150-hour TEFL certification course
