About Our Program Fees

CIEE, a non-profit organization, has been sending university graduates abroad to teach English since 1997. Our program in Thailand includes your visa fee, orientation on arrival, emergency insurance, and a high level of support throughout your experience (see all features below). To cover those costs, there is a program fee of $2,000. Once we accept your application, you’ll make a first payment of $500 to reserve your spot ($1,000 for programs with TEFL). The remaining balance of the program fee is due a few months later after you accept a job offer from a Thai school. CIEE alumni automatically receive a 10% discount!

Job Description

As a lead classroom teacher, you’ll focus on improving the conversational English skills of eager students with creative classroom exercises and educational games.  It’s helpful to have past teaching experience on the Teach in Thailand Professional program, because you often teach more advanced students.  The additional degree requirements for this program directly translate into a higher salary for you!

There are often positions open to teach other subjects, such as math, science, technology, computers, social studies, and physical education. Candidates with educational backgrounds in these areas are encouraged to note a willingness to teach subjects other than English on their applications. Also conducted in English, these classes are smaller than normal English classes.

CIEE Teach in Thailand Professional participants with a Bachelor’s degree in hard science or math (teaching those subjects) earn a high, minimum salary of 30,000 baht (approx. $900)/month. Teachers with a Bachelor’s degree in education earn 33,000 baht (approx. $1,000)/month because of their additional qualifications. All program participants enjoy provided accommodations.

Salaries are generous in local terms – about twice what local teachers earn – and your wages can easily finance independent travel after the semester ends. In addition, all Teach in Thailand Professional participants earn a completion bonus of 20,000 Thai baht to offset return airfare costs upon successful completion of contract.

  • Schools

Positions are available at private and public partner schools across Thailand. Most placements are available in the central, eastern, northeastern, and northern regions of the country; while positions in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and the southern provinces are limited and typically more competitive. We do not place teachers in the southern provinces of Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala, Satun, and Songkhla.

You can request placement at a particular level and location, but keep in mind that placements are driven by demand and that Thai schools make the final hiring decisions, so we cannot guarantee that requests will be met.

  • Workload

A typical teaching load is 20-25 classes per week, depending on the school.  In addition to time in the classroom, participants are expected to devote time to class planning, presentations, faculty meetings, and a range of extracurricular activities.  Participants should expect a 40-hour workweek.

This allows plenty of opportunity to travel, explore the countryside, and enjoy Thai culture.
