Job Description

Work as a private English instructor in Chile! You won’t have a permanent classroom; instead, you will instruct students one-on-one or in small groups. You’ll visit their homes, businesses and schools and get to know their families too.

You’ll work with a well-regarded language training company and spend part of your day teaching children and part of your day teaching adult professional, helping both groups develop their English skills.

The program is conducted in partnership with a leading Chilean language instruction company based in Santiago. With Teach in Chile Professional, your role is to find the best way to help individuals learn. You will be given a detailed course plan for each program to give you a firm foundation. The planning and preparation of individual lessons, however, is up to you. That means you’ll have plenty of room for creativity and exploration within the established curriculum.

The Teach in Chile – Professional program offers a guaranteed minimum income of 540,000 CLP (approx. $760)/month (after taxes), with additional pay depending on available assignments. The minimum is enough to support your basic living expenses after you arrive. You will need to bring additional funds to cover your first month as well as any major travel within Chile or in South America.

Like CIEE, the Chilean educational system is on a quest to bring the life-changing benefits of international education to more people. To fulfill this shared vision, CIEE Teach in Chile partners with a private language school. Their students range from kids who need extra English after school to businesses who want their employees to strengthen their business English. Their center is in the business district, which will be your base. They have curriculum and space for you to spread out and get creative.

  • Workload

Participation in Teach in Chile – Professional is a full-time commitment. Classes are held in students’ homes, offices or schools Monday through Friday in the mornings and afternoons, but you may have a few classes as early as 8 a.m. and as late as 8 p.m. You will have at least 15 contact teaching hours per week, as well as at least that much time commuting between client locations. With vacation time built into the program, you’ll be able to get out and explore Chile’s diverse natural beauty.
