I love coffee, and when it’s included with a unique ambiance and delicious treats the coffee tastes even better!
After a couple visits to Bangkok I noticed some places we walked by that were really unique. For example: one restaurant we passed has a giant silver tiger head outside of their restaurant for people to take pictures with. The restaurant also provided a roped area for patrons to line up and wait to take their photo with the huge tiger.
I thought this was insane, but the more I explored the more I looked out for fun and unique places similar to that.
That’s when I discovered themed cafes. I had never seen or experienced a themed cafe in the USA, outside of a children’s birthday party. However, on this side of the world they are all over!
These are a few I have visited:
The Unicorn Cafe
Hours: 12- 8 pm everydayClosed on Mondays
Location: 44/1 Soi Sathon 8, Silom, Bang Rak, Bangkok 10500, Thailand
My Overall rating: 4.3/5 only because the old stuffed animals hanging from the ceiling kind of freaked me out.
This cafe is well known among tourists and bloggers. The entire cafe was decorated in all the unicorn colors you could imagine. I.e. Pink, baby blue, and purple! They even have unicorns and ponies hanging from the ceiling. The atmosphere was adorable! When we visited several families with small children were there having the time of their lives!
The cafe has a broad menu from lunch items to delicious treats such as, cupcakes, cookies, cake, and ice cream!
Also, the cafe had unicorn onesies you could rent (ew) or buy!
HOPs Dog Cafe: The House of Paws Dog Cafe
Hours: 11 - 9 pm everyday Closed on Mondays
Location: 458, 458/1 Siam Square Soi 8, Khwaeng Pathum Wan, Pathum Wan District, Bangkok10330, Thailand
My Overall rating: 3.5/5 because to enter the dog area you have to buy at least 800 Baht worth of drinks, desserts, or souvenirs. Also, the dogs seemed a little too tired.
Dogs and delicious treats? Heaven!
However, the dogs were the only redeeming quality of this cafe.
There was no fee to visit with the dogs, however there is a 1 drink 1 food item minimum. You could purchase a souvenir instead of a food item. Unfortunately, the drinks were disappointing and expensive. They charged extra for dog treats and the dogs had very little energy which concerned me.
The atmosphere was clean and tidy, and the dogs were lots of fun to play with when you had treats to give them. Most of the dogs napped while we were there, so it was a little awkward.
Hours: 11 - 1 am everyday
Location: Soi Sukhumvit 55, Khlong Tan Nuea, Watthana, Bangkok 10110, Thailand
My Overall rating: 4.5/5 This place has cocktails!! And the dessert we shared was delicious and cool! Only downside was that this place was a little tough to find.
Two words, Hidden Gem.
At Mocking Tales, you feel as if you have stepped inside the wizarding world of Harry Potter! Except everything feels slightly off, mainly because they don’t use any Harry Potter affiliated names or decorations. Still, this place had a unique atmosphere!
We enjoyed a three scoops ice cream desert! The ice cream was covered in a chocolate, shaped like a volcano. The server dropped it off and then poured what looked like strawberry sauce all over it (YUM!). Then, he started chanting, I kid you not, and used another pot to pour what looked like water on the strawberry covered chocolate. This caused it to light on fire! Which melted the chocolate and revealed the ice cream we ordered.
Hours: 10 - 8 pm everyday
Location: Central Embassy, Level 2 Lumphini, Pathum Wan District, Bangkok 10330, Thailand
My Overall rating: 3/5 Expensive, and they did not allow for people to take pictures inside the cafe…
This tiny cafe is located inside a huge mall, and it felt like a tiny oasis away from the trendy shoppers. We quickly were told that we could not take any photos and there was a 1 drink and 1 dessert minimum to stay in the cafe.
While the atmosphere was adorable and felt like the inside of a little girls dream room. The prices were not so great.
This place was not our vibe, so we left, and headed to a different cafe.
PinkPlanter Cafe x Be My Glaze
Hours: 12 - 9 pm every weekday Closed Saturday & Sunday
Location: (3rd Floor Matchbox) 2 Rama I Rd, Pathum Wan, Pathum Wan District, Bangkok 10330, Thailand
My Overall rating: 4.8/5 Beautiful Atmosphere! Only downside is that they are closed on the weekends.
At this adorable place you walk up three winding staircases to officially enter the cafe. This cafe has huge windows which let in a lot of natural light providing a soothing living room like feel to it.
There are a few small tables, a bar area, and an outside balcony spot to sit an enjoy your treat!
I decided to try something different and enjoyed a Rose Lemonade soda with berries mixed in. It was delicious! My friend and I also decided to split a to die for chocolate tart cake!
I could have sat inside this place all day! And ordered all the different types of sodas!
Little Zoo Cafe
Hours: 11 - 8 pm everyday
Location: 424/7 Siam square, Rama I Rd, Pathum Wan District, Bangkok 10330, Thailand
My Overall rating: 3.5/5 Animals! Only downside was the smell. It smelled like a pet shop and some of the animals seemed more stressed then happy to be interacting with people.
The cafe was cute overall, and they have adorable corgis walking around the main cafe store. You check in at the front take a number and order from the cafe. There is no fee to see the animals, however like the Hops dog cafe you have to purchase a beverage and either a snack or “souvenir”. The souvenir is a Beanie Baby!!
The animals are kept in separate rooms from the main cafe and people can enter with the animal handlers present. Some you could pet and hold others they warned you about the animals that could bite, or you could not touch.
And an Honorable Mention!
