Whew! What a Weekend!
Our Friday in Monción started with a colorful caravan of 3-wheeled taxis which lead us to the town center.
Upon arrival, we were greeted with the warmest welcome by the cutest majorettes & coolest marching band.
Later, we enjoyed dinner “la bandera”….rice, beans, and chicken at Las Mercedes. Some also enjoyed la cabra (goat). After dinner, we merengued the night away.
We began Saturday by visiting Fábrica de Casabe Guaraguanó, a casaba factory, where we practiced making cassava.
At la Hidroelectrica de la Presa de Monción y Balneario, we learned all about how water is used to produce electricity. Here at this plant, the water released from the reservoir flows through a turbine, spinning it, which in turn activates a generator to produce power for the surrounding communities.
There’s always time for a dip in el río and to snack on mangos.
There’s nothing better than a hike to capture breath taking views.
Bonfire & a barbeque! What a way to end a perfect day!
A day of swimming, snorkeling, and just all around fun, fun, fun at Isla Cabra. What a way to round out a weekend!
