Flamenco, Tapas & Gaudí: A Week Immersed in Spanish Culture
This week, our students are heading out for some truly immersive experiences that enable them to experience Spanish culture with fun and flair.
We started with a flamenco workshop where we learnt to move our hips and hands with true flamenco alma. The instructor taught us some basics about the history of flamenco, traditional tunes and finally introduced us to some modern flamenco fusion. To top it off, we tried on some pieces of the traditional flamenco costume to really get a feel for the genre.
Next up was a traditional tapas workshop, complete with a feast of everything we prepared. Our students tried their hand at some of the most typical Spanish tapas - from montaditos and empanadillas to the beloved tortilla española. Let’s hope they bring the recipes home for their families!
Last but certainly not least, we were treated to a peak inside one of Antoni Gaudi’s treasures, Casa Milá (also known as La Pedrera). This was our student’s first encounter with the illustrious architect’s work and it did not disappoint! From the skyline views of Barcelona from the rooftop, to the meticulous nature symbolism woven throughout the interior, it was a successful sneak peek inside the mind of a genius and Catalán legend.
