What does it take to score as an entrepreneur in today’s international, interconnected business world? Get the answers straight from entrepreneurial leaders – and get set to launch a venture of your own.

And what a country to do it in! In the last couple of decades, Ireland has become an entrepreneurial hotspot. Following the global financial crisis, Ireland has rebounded, thanks in large part to the spirit and imagination of its entrepreneurs, including some you’ll meet.

Gain experience that will shape your studies and career. Visit the country’s epicenters of business growth and meet its business visionaries. Work on a team to develop and pitch a concept– and return home with a framework for a plan you can implement in your community. Learn to spot and capture opportunities with vision, resilience, and resourcefulness – qualities that will pay off time and again in the months and years ahead.

CIEE Gap Year Abroad programs are focused on supporting participants in acquiring knowledge and developing skills to live in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world. In addition to career exploration activities and experiences and gaining a better understanding of the local culture, you will take part in our Global Competence Course. This online course will allow you to connect and collaborate in real-time with our entire cohort of Gap participants worldwide, through interactive workshops and discussions. Reflect on your own cultural biases, share insights about your experience and learn about topics ranging from cultural identity and leadership styles to how to work and live sustainably or develop communication skills.

Addtionally, all Career Exploration participants will take part in the Professional Development Workshop facilitated by CIEE experts focused on business culture and supporting the development of professional skills. This interactive workshop will allow students to connect on a weekly basis across all Career Exploration sites. Each week will bring with it a new theme, covering topics like goal setting, how to build an entrepreneurial mindset and best practices for expanding your business and professional network. Regardless of which academic and professional path you choose, this workshop will be relevant and helpful in developing real-world skills and competence!

In Dublin you’ll live in student apartments in downtown Dublin and spend time exploring the shops, markets, and street life of this exciting city!

Dublin is one of Europe’s most youthful cities with over 50% of the population under 25.

Here you’ll find a lively music scene with a range of contemporary and traditional bands playing in clubs and small venues nightly.

Founded as a Viking settlement, Dublin’s history as Ireland’s principal city dates back to the reign of King John. As befits a city with such a long history, Dublin is packed with monuments and buildings that date from Dublin Castle in 1204, to Trinity College founded in 1592, which houses the Book of Kells through the elegant Georgian Terraces and beyond.

From traditional Irish soda bread to colcannon, Irish cuisine can compete with the very best of European cuisine. Don’t leave without trying a rich Guinness stew, made from the drink that typifies Ireland and Dublin in particular.

A successful Gap Career Exploration achieves the right balance between hands-on learning opportunities, structured moments of instruction that can put your experience in context, and cultural activities or excursions that fully immerse you in the local culture.

All our programs begin with a week-long training session to help you:

  • Get familiar with the local business landscape and research your host organization
  • Articulate objectives for your internship, job shadow and/or volunteer experience
  • Set a work plan into place

For the following 4 weeks, you will be splitting your time between a career exploration experience (from 15 to 20 hours a week), cultural activities and professional development workshops. You'll also get to join our Global Competence course that will connect you with our entire cohort of gap students worldwide.

On your last week, you will meet our team back at the CIEE Global Institute to debrief your career exploration experience and set your own professional goals.

Weekends are for group excursions (two per 6-week block) or personal travel and exploration.
