Residence hall/shared apartment. Students can live in dormitory or apartment-style accommodations with shared (double or triple) rooms, kitchen facilities, and laundry facilities.
While meals are not included in your program fee, San Francisco boasts cuisine from around the globe, focusing on seafood and local food trends. With San Francisco Bay hugging the city, fresh crab, shrimp and seafood chowder are abound.

What you need to knowThe program details
As a global intern in San Francisco, you’ll work in a non-paying position within a wide range of opportunities across a diverse set of innovative industries. Co-curricular excursions and cultural activities in and around San Francisco complement your coursework and immerse you in the history and culture of the city.
This 8-week program includes a full-time internship and an integrated academic seminar.

Students need to have a GPA of at least 2.5.
Rising sophomore standing and above required at time of participation.
Additional visa restrictions may apply and CIEE will advise students as part of the early application process. International students traveling to the USA on a J-1 Intern Visa* are encouraged to apply early to the program, prior to the application deadline, to allow for ample visa processing time.
*International students traveling to the USA for the Global Internship Program must be eligible for a J-1 Intern Visa. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a degree program or recently graduated within 12 months of the program start date. International students currently matriculated at a US institution of higher education should consult with their home institution about activating CPT or OPT on their F-1 Student Visa.
Total credit: 6 U.S. semester/9 quarter credits
Internship: 6 U.S. semester/9 quarter credits; 30 integrated academic seminar hours, 200-240 internship placement hours
Language of Instruction
Students participate in an academic seminar taught in an online learning environment alongside the eight-week, full-time internship and weekly co-curricular workshops, site visits, and lectures. Participation in the integrated academic seminar and co-curriculars is mandatory for all participants.

Dates & Fees

To help you budget, keep in mind that students are responsible for the cost of international airfare, local transportation, books and supplies, visas, and personal expenses. In addition, ask your college or university study abroad advisor if your school charges additional fees for study abroad.

CIEE offers the most student support of any provider in its program fee, including an airport greeting, full-time leadership and support, orientation, cultural activities, local excursions, pre-departure advising, and CIEE iNext travel insurance with benefits.

CIEE offers the most grants and scholarships of any study abroad organization, including $8 million/year in travel grants, merit-based scholarships, institutional and MSI grants, and Gilman Go Global Grants.
This breakdown has been prepared from the program budget for the purpose of calculating eligibility for financial aid. During the course of program operations, actual figures may vary. It should not, therefore, be used as a basis for calculation of refunds. CIEE reserves the right to adjust fees at any time.
Students required to study on CIEE programs through a School of Record will be charged a $500 administrative fee in addition to the Program Fees listed.
