Location & CultureClick to Open
The capital of Spain’s Andalusia region, Seville has mastered the delicate balance of preserving its magnificent past and offering the conveniences of a modern commercial hub. It’s the birthplace of Baroque painter Velazquez, celebrated sculptor La Roldana, and the city where Ferdinand and Isabella ruled Spain in the late 15th century – not to mention home of the ingenious barber of Seville and tempestuous Carmen. For a city of about 700,000, the city offers a rich array cultural activities that include flamenco to classical, pop, and jazz concerts.
EXCURSIONS & ACTIVITIES
- Explore beyond Seville with day trips to Cádiz, Carmona, or Málaga.
- Travel overnight to get the bigger view of the Spanish landscape and culture beyond Seville. In the past, students travelled to Granada, Cadiz and Bolonia,
- See iconic places like Parque de María Luisa, Plaza de Espana, and Hospital de los Venerables.
- Try your hand at cooking local specialties – tapas anyone?
- Socialize and practice language with Spanish students with a conversation exchange program.

Homestays. Most students choose to live with a Spanish-speaking family. Homestays generally are limited to one student per household; however, we can usually accommodate requests to be placed with another student - subject to approval from the study abroad office. Each student will have his/her own bedroom, and weekly cleaning, laundry and Internet are provided. Students usually walk or ride rented bikes, but may also be able to take public transportation when available; average commute to classes is 20-30 minutes.
Residence halls. Students have individual bedrooms with bathroom, kitchen, Internet, and weekly cleaning and linen service. Halls have common spaces, and students can opt to pay for meal plans, laundry, gym and pool services and more. Students should expect a 20-40-minute commute, riding a rented bike or city bus.
Academic-year students: Students can move to private apartments for the second semester. Roommates may not be American or English-speaking. CIEE provides a monthly stipend for these students, but they are responsible for arranging and paying for apartments.
Homestay: Three meals per day are provided by the host. Residence halls: Meals are not provided. Students have access to kitchens and cafeterias.

What you need to knowThe program details
This program is designed to help students expand their business vocabulary, immerse themselves linguistically and professionally in a new culture, and gain practical experience on the job. After an intensive session to build vocabulary and conversational skills, students begin an internship of 100 hours of on-site work. Interning is complimented by a research project, and weekly seminars on topics such as public speaking and leadership.
Intern with a Spanish company. Help improve logistics and customer relations, build finance reports in Excel, analyze competitors, develop marketing plans, audit local Andalusian companies and more.
Participate in our “Internship Fair” and practice your job interview skills. The internship selection process takes into account student´s language ability, job skills, background, and professional attitude. Because Spanish firms make final selections, internships in a particular company are not guaranteed. Students have interned for organizations like Biomedal, Simetrycal, Wellness Telecom, CyO Arquitectos and Telefónica – Andalucia Open Future, as well as smaller firms and companies.
CIEE Study Center – Our home is a beautifully renovated palace, originally built in 1725. Close to the Royal Alcazar palace, it’s a 10-minute walk from the Universidad de Seville. The Center includes classrooms, a computer room, student services and the Language Resource Center.
Prior to departure for Seville, all students take a scheduled CIEE online placement exam. Results determine appropriate placement in language courses. Placement in many upper-level courses depends on a high score.
Students agree to speak only Spanish to encourage language and cultural acquisition.
