Click to OpenCIEE Virtual Global Internships allow you to experience the changing world of work without leaving your home! These credit-bearing internships draw from our robust network of companies and host organizations in more than 15 cities around the world. We will match you with an 12-week, project-based internship based on your academic profile and career goals! Learn how both synchronous and asynchronous collaboration work happens across time zones while gaining critical on-the-job skills like self-confidence, independence, and project management.
This program contains 225-300 internship hours in total or approximately 28-30 hours/week. You will also be enrolled in our online course, Academic Internship in the Global Workplace, which combined with your completed internship, can earn you six credits.

The Virtual Global Internship program pairs you with a non-paying internship across a diverse set of industries and companies. During the program, you will receive coaching and support throughout the internship, additional workshops and a key motivator assessment. Together with the online course, you’ll explore best practices for resume writing, interview prep, time management, building an entrepreneurial mindset, and maintaining a global network.
This twelve-week program includes an online internship and an integrated online academic course. The online course is a required part of enrolling in this program and must be completed to receive academic credit.
GPA
Students need to have a GPA of at least 2.5 to participate in the program.
Language Prerequisites
There are no specific language requirements for this program.
Additional Requirements
Students must be currently enrolled in an associate, bachelor, or master’s degree program and have completed at least their first academic year of studies before the program begins. Recent graduates (within 24 months) are also eligible to participate. Participants are required to have access to a laptop/computer with audio capabilities. Participants are required to have reliable access to internet/WiFi.

Program Requirements
Participants are required to be actively engaged in the program while completing the requisite internship hours, and to complete all coursework assignments, to achieve credit.
While the extra-curricular workshops and coaching sessions are not mandatory, we strongly encourage all participants to attend.

Total credit: 6 U.S. semester/9 quarter credits

Internship: 6 U.S. semester/9 quarter credits; 45 academic course hours, 225-300 internship placement hours

Academic Culture
Students are expected to behave professionally throughout their internship project and are subject to the agreed-upon internship protocols arranged by CIEE and the host organizations. The academic course is designed to prepare students for leadership in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse workforce.
Class Format
Students participate in a eight-week CIEE virtual internship and academic course taught in an online learning environment. Class and/or work hours may be scheduled Monday-Friday, and attendance is strictly enforced for all.
Grading
Students will be assessed via assignments and activities related to the academic course, including but not limited to: online discussion forums, reflective papers, individual or group presentations, analysis of readings, an internship work plan, and feedback from internship supervisor. Internship supervisors and students each provide written evaluations of progress towards goals.

In our online course, Academic Internship in the Global Workplace, students will be challenged to question, reflect upon, and respond to the issues they observe and encounter in the internship setting and local host environment. The course allows students to focus on their assigned tasks and projects at the internship site, while engaging in online discussion, as well as readings and other assignments, that are necessary to receive academic credit for the internship.
