  • HOUSING

    Shared Apartments: Live only steps away from the most famous sites in Rome! You’ll share an apartment with 4-7 CIEE students in a historic building in Prati, a safe, residential neighborhood surrounded by quaint markets, shops, restaurants, and public transportation. Some will even share an apartment with a “Buddy,” a local student enrolled in an Italian university.

  • MEALS

    Meals are not provided, but apartments are equipped with kitchens, appliances, and cookware.

Explore a wealth of fascinating topics - both in and out of the classroom! Coursework is complemented by fascinating field trips, while language courses will help prepare you to fully interact with your community.

Courses are taught at the CIEE Global Institute and are taught by professors from some of Rome’s most respected universities and research institutions.

Academics

  • CLASS FORMAT

    Students enroll in one 3-credit CIEE course per session. Teaching methods vary by course but generally include lectures, discussions, individual and group projects, as well as excursions in and around Rome. Students may also enroll, once per student, in the one-credit Communicative Italian class in addition to their 3-credit class.

  • GRADING

    Students are graded based on a combination of participation, homework, written assignments, individual project work, presentations, and midterm/final examinations. Participation and punctuality in all classes weigh heavily in student evaluations.

  • ACADEMIC CULTURE

    Classes meet several times a week, and co-curricular excursions and events are integrated within the coursework to complement what you’re learning. Additionally, classes are augmented online through Canvas, our learning management system.

    Students need to have a GPA of at least 2.5

Curriculum

Program Credit

  • Total credit: 3-4 semester/4.5-6 quarter hours per session (Students choose to enroll in one, two, or three sessions)

If you can think it, you can study it! Delve into a wide array of topics such as the historical development of the mafia in Italian society, or the evolution of Italian painting. Each session, students enroll in:

  • One CIEE area studies elective course: 45 contact hours for 3 semester/4.5 quarter hours
  • An optional Communicative Italian course (may be taken only once): 15 contact hours for 1 semester/1.5 quarter hours
