will receive a Douglass-O'Connell Scholars Grant that they may use for any CIEE summer or semester program through summer 2028.

Housing & Meals
Housing
CIEE Dublin offers housing in apartments located in student residence communities. All housing options are situated in lively districts with multiple dining options, convenient public transport, and are within 30 minutes of walking access to central Dublin.
Standard Housing: Includes a private bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, a dedicated study space, and ample storage in an apartment suite shared with other students. All students share common spaces, a kitchen, and pay-to-use laundry facilities. Apartments are located within 45 minutes of the CIEE center (transfer required) and 30 minutes of the city center.
Select Housing: Includes a private bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, a dedicated study space, and ample storage in a shared apartment suite shared with other students. All students share common spaces, a kitchen, and pay-to-use laundry facilities. Apartments are located within 20 minutes of CIEE (no transfer required) and within 30 minutes of the city center. Select housing requires an additional fee.
A note: The default criterion to assign housing is first-come, first-served; however, other factors may also be considered. If we cannot accommodate your first housing choice, we'll let you know before you arrive. Non-standard housing options require an additional fee that can be found in the program Dates and Fees.
Meals
Students can prepare their own meals in the full kitchen. CIEE provides basic cooking utensils and cleaning supplies. Students can also explore the myriad of restaurants in our neighborhood or throughout the city.
Transportation
Commute time from housing location to internship will vary depending on location of the internship provider.
Academics
The 2027 Douglass-O’Connell Global Interns will spend June 14-August 7, 2027 in Dublin and participate in a fully immersive internship at an Irish organization and accompanying academic seminar while on the program. Students will also explore the legacies of Frederick Douglass and Daniel O’Connell as successful businessmen and leaders of social change.
Co-sponsored by CIEE, Ireland's Department of Foreign Affairs, the African American Irish Diaspora Network (AAIDN), and the John & Lillian Miles Lewis Foundation, the program is named for Frederick Douglass' 1845 visit to Ireland, where he was welcomed by the Irish public and met Irish reformer Daniel O'Connell. Honoring this shared history of social reform, the program supports students from diverse backgrounds in preparing for future career success.
Course Information
The 2027 Douglass-O’Connell Global Interns will take a 6-credit academic internship and seminar while on the program. Students will also explore the legacies of Frederick Douglass and Daniel O’Connell as successful businessmen and leaders of social change. In addition to this course, Douglass-O’Connell Global Interns will participate in a fully immersive internship at an Irish organization.

Dates & Fees
Co-sponsored by CIEE, the Government of Ireland, and the African American Irish Diaspora Network, the award covers the cost of travel, housing, field trips, and a three-credit course taught by CIEE. Meals and recreational activities are not covered.

Program Fees

Financial Aid
CIEE offers the most grants and scholarships of any study abroad organization, including $8 million/year in travel grants, merit-based scholarships, institutional grants, and Gilman Go Global Grants.
