This charming capital city consists of two halves - Buda and Pest - separated by the Danube River. Despite the scars from four decades of communist rule, the city boasts a modern feel and serves as the economic, cultural, and political center of Hungary.
Completed in 1904, the Hungarian Parliament Building is the tallest building in Budapest at 315 feet. It is the third largest parliament building in the world.
EXCURSIONS & ACTIVITIES
- Brush up on balneology on a visit to one of the city’s thermal baths.
- Take a guided tour of the House of Terror Museum, a memorial to the victims of Hungary’s fascist and communist regimes.
- Spend an evening at a local dance house or take folk dance lessons.
- Walk the Chain Bridge, an iconic nineteenth century stone bridge.

- Volunteer at a children’s home, a homeless shelter, or in local community centers.

Dorms/Apartments: Students will live in either a student dormitory or in double-occupancy rooms in apartments.
Meals are not included. Students prepare meals in shared kitchens or purchase food at local restaurants.

In the Summer Central European Studies program, students take the required course: Political Problems of Transformation in East Central Europe to explore Hungary’s and East Central Europe’s political developments from the 20th century to today. Students can also enroll in an optional Communicative Hungarian Language course taught in Hungarian (1 credit). In-class work is augmented with co-curricular visits to the city’s rich variety of cultural institutions and organizations relevant to the course offering.
CIEE Budapest is located in the heart of the city at the Corvinus University Business School, situated on the idyllic Danube river.

To help you budget, keep in mind that students are responsible for the cost of international airfare, books and supplies, visas, and personal expenses. In addition, ask your college or university study abroad advisor if your school charges additional fees for study abroad.

CIEE offers the most student support of any provider in its program fee, including an airport greeting, full-time leadership and support, orientation, cultural activities, local excursions, pre-departure advising, and CIEE iNext travel insurance with benefits.

Students are responsible and manage costs related to travel, meals, books, and personal expenses. Below are estimates for consideration.

CIEE offers the most grants and scholarships of any study abroad organization, including $8 million/year in travel grants, merit-based scholarships, institutional and MSI grants, and Gilman Go Global Grants.
This breakdown has been prepared from the program budget for the purpose of calculating eligibility for financial aid. During the course of program operations, actual figures may vary. It should not, therefore, be used as a basis for calculation of refunds. CIEE reserves the right to adjust fees at any time.
Students required to study on CIEE programs through a School of Record will be charged a $500 administrative fee in addition to the Program Fees listed.
