London has a history stretching back to the Romans, there are four World Heritage sites, leading museums and plenty of green spaces. A contemporary global city, London is home to almost 9 million people from all over the world.
A major financial center and leading hub for the arts London has many eclectic neighborhoods to discover.
EXCURSIONS & ACTIVITIES
- Visit the Chinese galleries at the British Museum and learn about the history of Chinese culture through the objects on display
- An overnight trip to Liverpool, you may know it as the home of The Beatles but the oldest Chinese community in the UK is in Liverpool. Learn about the historic links between the UK and China in the port of Liverpool and bring the relationship up to date by exploring how Liverpool seeks to attract investment from China today.
- A day trip to Oxford to hear from academics at the China Centre at Oxford University.
- Visit the London Docklands Museum and Limehouse home to London’s first Chinatown.

Housing will be in either a residence hall or shared apartments centrally located in Bloomsbury, Old Street or Kings Cross. Students will share twin or triple rooms and will have access to cooking facilities.
No meals are provided in London but students will have access to kitchen facilities to cook their own meals.

What you need to knowThe program details
This program gives students a strong foundation in Chinese language through an intensive and Chinese language environment. Designed for beginners and advanced Mandarin Chinese students alike, the program includes five course levels to develop your listening comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing skills, or elevate your language skills to a superior level, communicating with accuracy, fluency, and sophistication. In-class work is augmented with co-curricular visits to the city’s rich variety of cultural institutions and organizations relevant to the course offering.
The CIEE Global Institute – London is located in the heart of Bloomsbury. It sits in one of the most vibrant and student-populated neighborhoods of central London and is housed in two Georgian buildings with classrooms, a café, a garden terrace, lounge and study.

CIEE accelerated language courses: 5 U.S. semester/7.5 quarter credits; 75 contact hours
Language of Instruction
Students must take 2 consecutive, accelerated language courses
Students will take an on-site placement exam and be registered in the appropriate language levels based on their results.

CIEE offers the most student support of any provider in its program fee, including an airport greeting, full-time leadership and support, orientation, cultural activities, local excursions, pre-departure advising, and CIEE iNext travel insurance with benefits.

Students are responsible and manage costs related to travel, meals, books, and personal expenses. Below are estimates for consideration.

CIEE offers the most grants and scholarships of any study abroad organization, including $8 million/year in travel grants, merit-based scholarships, institutional and MSI grants, and Gilman Go Global Grants.
This breakdown has been prepared from the program budget for the purpose of calculating eligibility for financial aid. During the course of program operations, actual figures may vary. It should not, therefore, be used as a basis for calculation of refunds. CIEE reserves the right to adjust fees at any time.
Students required to study on CIEE programs through a School of Record will be charged a $500 administrative fee in addition to the Program Fees listed.
