CIEE’s new London campus, located on Russell Square, features Georgian-style architecture, 10 classrooms, a café, garden terrace, and tech zone, located near a wealth of cultural and educational opportunities.

The program details

As a global intern in London, you’ll work in a non-paying position within a wide range of opportunities across a diverse set of industries. Co-curricular excursions and cultural activities in and around London complement your coursework and immerse you in the history and culture of the city.

This semester-long program includes 6 weeks of academic coursework and an 8-week full-time internship and academic seminar. Class environment varies depending on the course and is designed to follow U.S. academic culture and standards.

Academics

  • CLASS FORMAT

    Students begin by taking two CIEE elective courses offered on a 6-week academic block system. All courses are customized for and open only to CIEE students. Elective classes include a combination of lectures, group work, presentations, and discussions. The second part of the program includes an 8-week CIEE full-time internship and academic seminar and one optional CIEE elective course.

  • GRADING

    The U.S. grading scale of A-F is used. Final grades are based on class participation, homework, individual project work, presentations, and midterm and final exams. In the integrated academic course which correlates with the 8-week internship, students should expect to be assessed via assignments and mandatory co-curricular activities, as outlined in the syllabus. Internship supervisors provide a written evaluation of progress towards internship goals at the conclusion of the placement.

  • ACADEMIC CULTURE

    CIEE courses are designed to follow U.S. academic culture and standards. The class environment for elective courses typically features a combination of traditional lecture and discussion. The integrated academic course which correlates with the 8-week internship is taught primarily in an online learning environment to complement the internship experience. Mandatory co-curricular activities for this integrated academic course are delivered in person. Students are expected to dress and behave professionally throughout their internship and are subject to the agreed-upon internship protocols arranged by CIEE and the host organization.

Eligibility

  • OVERALL GPA

    Students need to have a GPA of at least 2.5. Students participating in the London Semester Global Internship program must maintain full-time student status at their home university while participating in the CIEE program and must have matriculated full-time at their home university at least three months prior to application. Students should be prepared to obtain a signed letter from their home university confirming student matriculation details. Additional visa restrictions may apply and CIEE will advise students as part of the early application process. 

  • PROGRAM CREDIT

    • Total semester credit: 12-16 semester/18-24 quarter hours.

  • PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

    Upon completing the two electives during the first 6-week block, students participate in an integrated academic seminar taught alongside the 8-week, full-time internship. The two 6-week elective courses, seminar and internship are required components of the program.

    Explore literature, history, religion, and more with our course offerings. Students will enroll in:

    • Two CIEE elective courses offered on a 6-week academic block system.
    • 8-week full-time internship with an integrated online academic seminar.
    • Optional additional CIEE elective course: Doing Business in Europe.

Course Notes

  • All internships are offered in English. 
  • Students should expect to spend 30-32 hours per week engaged in internship project work.
  • Week 1-6 elective courses are chosen from any of the courses offered through the Open Campus program in Block I. Courses are listed under “FALL 2019 BLOCK I CIEE COURSES” and “SPRING 2020 BLOCK I CIEE COURSES” sections below, respectively. 
    • Please note that in order to remain within the program credit range, students who take a STEM Lab course during Weeks 1-6 are not eligible to take the additional optional CIEE elective course during Weeks 7-14.
  • The optional Week 7-14 elective is listed under “FALL 2019 CIEE COURSES” and “SPRING 2020 CIEE COURSES” sections below, respectively.
  • “GI” denotes courses that are offered at multiple Global Institutes.

WEEKS 7 - 14
