Immerse yourself in Cuban culture for four weeks. This program has you studying and getting to know the capital city of Havana in equal measure. You’ll spend time in the UNESCO World Heritage site as well as its many diverse suburbs while taking one intensive course and living with a local Cuban family. There’s no better way to feel like a local in this fascinating city.

The Culture

What you need to know

The program details

Sessions I and II are both based at the Centro de Estudios Martianos (CEM). Both CEM, as well as the CIEE Study Center, are located in the central Havana district of Vedado. Classes offered are for CIEE students only.

Classes will be taught by local faculty and visiting scholars, most of whom are researchers or instructors at the University of Havana or other top Cuban universities.

Courses are taught in Spanish.

  • CLASS FORMAT

    Classes are for CIEE students only.

  • GRADING

    Grades are based on a written and oral assignments and a final paper or examination. A U.S.-style letter grading system (A, B, C, D, F) will be used.

  • SCHEDULE

    Summer Session 1: Mid May to mid June Summer Session 1 & 2: Mid May to mid July Summer Session 2: Mid June to mid July

Eligibility

  • OVERALL GPA

    Students must have an overall GPA of at least 2.5.

  • PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

    4 semesters of college-level Spanish

  • Total credit: 3 semester/4.5 quarter hours.
