The program details

The CIEE Study Center in Buenos Aires has offered programs since 1993 and attracts one of the largest number of students each year among CIEE Study Centers in the region. It is located on the urban campus of the Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (FLACSO) de Argentina.

Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (FLACSO) de Argentina. Founded in 1957 by UNESCO, the United Nations agency dedicated to education, culture, and science, FLACSO sponsors Latin America’s largest and most prestigious postgraduate teaching and research program in the social sciences. FLACSO-Argentina was established in 1974, and its faculty is associated with the most well-respected local universities.

Courses are taught in English. The language course is taught in Spanish.

All CIEE FLACSO courses are taught by professors with extensive academic and practical experience and expertise in the field. The academic content of the program is designed, managed, and delivered by CIEE and FLACSO.

Classes are for CIEE students only.

Final grades in courses are based on a combination of attendance, participation, papers, presentations, and a final paper or exam. Professors report Argentine numerical grades (1-10 scale), and CIEE converts to U.S. letter grades.

Classes are typically scheduled during the mornings or afternoons, Monday through Thursday. Students should expect daily homework assignments and weekly quizzes. Most courses combine lectures with local field trips and excursions to help students gain a better understanding of the local culture and use their language skills with local residents.

Program Credit

  • Total credit: 3–4 semester credits/4.5-6 quarter credits per session (Students choose to enroll in one, two, or three sessions.)

Each session, students enroll in:
