Click to OpenJanuary in Buenos Aires is designed for students who want to explore, understand, and debate Argentinian identity and culture through its music, specifically, Tango. The three-week course is taught at the CIEE Global Institute – Buenos Aires, in English, and complemented with immersive co-curricular activities designed to increase intercultural understanding.

The Destination
Stately architecture and a steady influx of European immigrants earned Buenos Aires the nickname, the Paris of South America. Founded in 1536, this surprisingly navigable metropolis reveals influence of Europe and the Middle East in architecture and café life. A vibrant port city, Buenos Aires is also the world’s leading Spanish language publishing center. With a population of 13 million, it has the cultural intrigue found only in cities of this size and prestige.

Housing
Homestay: Students are placed with carefully screened homestay families. Each family has at least one member that can speak English. The commute to class takes an average of 30 minutes by public transportation. Hosts may be nuclear families with young children, single professionals, young couples with no children, or older couples.

Homestay includes two meals per day: breakfast and either lunch or dinner. Students are responsible for the other meal.

The program detailsThe January in Buenos Aires program focuses on Tango and how it has shaped the tradition, culture, and identity of Argentina. Students will live the poetry and the music of this world-renowned genre through a combination of coursework, exploring the city, and participating in co-curricular activities.
CIEE Global Institute – Buenos Aires is located in one of the most vibrant and student populated neighborhoods of the city and offers easy access to some of the city’s nicest parks, restaurants, cafés, and shops.

Program FeesCIEE offers the most student support of any provider in its program fee, including an airport greeting, full-time leadership and support, orientation, cultural activities, local excursions, pre-departure advising, and CIEE iNext travel insurance with benefits. Note: January 2020 programs in Latin America are not eligible for CIEE Scholarships and Grants.
