A typical Catalan weekend plan at this time of year involves heading up to the hills for a long hike followed by a calçotada, and this is just what a group of CIEE students and staff did! 20 minutes train ride from Plaza Catalunya took us straight to the heart of the Collserolla park, where we enjoyed a 2 hour hike in perfect weather. We even got chatting to some locals with two very cute dogs.
Having worked up an appetite, we sat down to a spread of calçots, long green onions that are slung on the BBQ to slowly roast, and then served up with a sauce made of tomatoes, garlic, almonds and olive oil. It was delicious and very messy!
