on every blog post I say I did the MOST amazing thing and had the BEST day of my life but it just keeps happening. This week we did the most amazing thing and it was the best day of my life. again.
this week we took a 5 hour road trip to the morogoro region where the udzungwa mountains/national park is. there we hiked to the top of the tallest waterfall in Tanzania.
vocab of the day:
waterfall- maporomoko ya maji
mountain- mlima
tree- mti
fujo- chaos (this has nothing to do with the waterfall, just what my Swahili teacher and mom tell me to stop causing)
nimechelewa- I'm late! (if you know me... you know)
to swim- kuogelea
we hiked all the way to the top of the waterfall and it was beautiful. it was another of those "Wow, I'm really here and I'm really doing this" moments. When we hiked down to the base of the waterfall we were able to get in and swim. despite not knowing how to swim I jumped off the rock into the freezing cold water and loved it. from the base our guide pointed out that when you looked up at the water fall the outline of some of the rocks looked like the outline of the continent of Africa.
after that we made our way back down the mountain. my soaking wet box braids felt about 20 pounds heavier on my head and my previously torn acl was not happy with me after the 8th kilometer of hiking but I loved every second of it.
nimefurahi kuwa hapa. I am happy to be here.
nothing I can say can adequately describe how incredible this place was, but maybe some pictures will help.
