Professor Sonia Maruenda received a Ph.D and Master’s degree in Romances Languages and Linguistics from the University of Washington, Seattle, WA, and her Bachelor´s Degree in Lengua y Literatura Hispánicas con mención en Lingüística [Spanish Language and Literature in the area of Linguistics] from the PUCP. She has years of experience teaching Spanish as a Second Language and Formal Linguistics applied to the study of Spanish to university students both in Peru and the United States. Her focus of interest is Formal Linguistics. She is currently developing a scientific grammar of Peruvian Sign Language (Lengua de Señas Peruana), a language which is for the first time, starting to be linguistically analyzed. She now resides in Peru with her family and also teaches Linguistic courses for the School of Humanities, Linguistics Department, at the PUCP.
