Katie Mathieson was a student on the CIEE Khon Kaen Development and Globalization program the fall semester of 2013. Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she graduated in May 2015 from Davidson College with a BS in Environmental Studies. While at Davidson she was President of Davidson Outdoors, and spent 4 summers organizing, training leaders, and leading Davidson’s pre-orientation program, Odyssey. Odyssey is an 8-day program designed to help students transition from high school to life at Davidson. Katie’s senior year at Davidson she revived Davidson’s intentional living community – The Eco-House. Before working for CIEE she worked for Overland Summer Programs. She worked as a part of their logistics team and led a 3-week backpacking and sea kayaking trip for 12 high schoolers. In her free time in college Katie served for two years on the board of trustees of The Davidson Lands Conservancy. In the summer of 2014, she received a journalism grant from the The Pulitzer Center to spend 6 weeks in Patagonia, Chile, and published 3 articles and a video about environmental issues and social movements.
