Jonathan is primarily responsible for monitoring the quality and overseeing the development of CIEE Amsterdam’s roster of CIEE courses, while also maintaining and further expanding CIEE Amsterdam’s long-standing partnership with the University of Amsterdam. Born and raised in Belgium, Jonathan has been fascinated with the United States for as long as he can remember, and after being an exchange student in Oregon for a year after high school, he knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life in the orbit of the U.S. Without knowing it at the time, he took a pivotal step on the road to becoming an Americophile when he watched his first episode of American television as a toddler, and television has since then been closely bound up with his understanding of the U.S. He combined the two during his undergraduate and graduate studies in American Studies at the University of Groningen, during which he focused principally on unpacking the changing representation of women in American television. Since 2015, Jonathan teaches CIEE Screen Cultures, in which students critically analyze the representation of gender and sexuality in modern and contemporary American television and film.
