Giselda Pereira has taught Portuguese as a foreign language at the University of São Paulo where she also administered the most important Portuguese language exam (CELPE Bras), a certificate of proficiency in Portuguese language for foreigners developed and granted by the Brazilian Ministry of Education and Culture. She is the author of a method to learning Portuguese as a foreign language. Her book "Fala Ação – Caderno de Atividades para Português Língua Estrangeiral" (2005) is a guide for students and teachers in Brazil. For the past decade she has been researching and writing about the construction of national identity, the representation of the nation, and Portuguese-as-a-foreign-language studies as a source of culture. She received her B.A. in Portuguese and linguistics and her M.A. in applied linguistics, both from the University of São Paulo. Her master’s dissertation presented a discussion about cultural identity in the learning process of Portuguese as a foreign language. Giselda has been with CIEE since 2002.
