- Learning While Leading: Supporting Intercultural Development Through Study Away
Francisco “Paco” Frisuelos has a Ph.D. degree and M.A. in Humanities from the Universidad Carlos III (Madrid) focusing on Visual Arts and Gender Studies. He has another M.A. degree in Film Studies from Universidad Autonóma de Madrid. He also studied communications in the United States at McDaniel College in Maryland. His undergraduate major at Universidad de Sevilla was art history. He worked as a professor for several American universities and at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid teaching Spanish Cinema, Art History and Spanish Culture. Dr. Frisuelos is the instructor for the CIEE course Intercultural Communication and Leadership, which is offered to all CIEE students. He has been with CIEE since 2010 and is fluent in Spanish, English, French and Italian.
Francisco has worked in the area of study abroad for 15 years, and at the CIEE Madrid Study Center for four years. He teaches a course on intercultural communication and leadership that helps students develop intercultural competence and adapt to Spanish culture. He is involved in other intercultural initiatives at CIEE, including our new Intercultural Comparative Experience for summer short-term study abroad students. Francisco is part of CIEE’s Intercultural Training Team, which provides training to staff members worldwide. He has participated in workshops with leaders in this field, including Mick Vande Berg, Ph.D., and Sivasailam Thiagarajan, Ph.D.
Francisco received doctorate and master’s degrees in humanities with a focus on visual arts and gender studies from the Universidad Carlos III in Madrid. He also holds a master’s in film studies from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. He has presented at several international conferences and published articles on topics in these fields. He previously taught at several American universities and Universidad Carlos III.
