CIEE Security Alert - Jordan

Wed, 11/06/2019

According to media reports, on Wednesday, 6 November, as many as eight people including four foreign nationals from Mexico and Switzerland were injured, along with a member of the security forces and a tour guide, during a stabbing attack in the city of Jerash. Reports suggest that the incident happened in the vicinity of a visitor's center. The assailant was detained immediately following the attack and investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Jerash is located over 20 miles from Amman and no CIEE excursions were planned for there today, so there was no direct impact for our students or staff. This appears to be an isolated incident, but CIEE will continue to monitor the situation closely for any wider implications. If there are any relevant developments, we will provide updates here. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call us at 1-800-40-STUDY.
