CIEE Security Alert - Chile (Update)
According to the United States Geological Society (USGS), a 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck in the vicinity of Illapel, Chile on Monday, 4 November (150 miles north of Valparaiso, Chile). There have been no reports as yet of any Chilean damage or casualties.
Shortly following the earthquake, there were reports of additional protests in Valparaiso that involved localized looting and police action in the Vina Del Mar section of the city.
Following both the earthquake in Illapel and reports of public disturbance in Vina del Mar, all CIEE Participants in Chile have been contacted and are confirmed safe.
