CIEE Health Alert - Information on European Travel Ban (Update)
The U.S. government has announced that the United Kingdom and Ireland will be added to the recent US proclamation banning travel to the U.S. for the next 30 days EXCEPT FOR U.S. citizens and permanent residents. The UK and Ireland will be subject to the same travel restriction imposed this week on the Schengen Area countries, starting at midnight Monday, March 16 (0400hrs GMT Tuesday).
From the statement on the DHS website: “…President Donald J. Trump signed a Presidential Proclamation, which suspends the entry of most foreign nationals who have been in certain European countries at any point during the 14 days prior to their scheduled arrival to the United States. […] This does not apply to legal U.S. permanent residents, (generally) immediate family members of U.S. citizens, and other individuals who are identified in the proclamation."
We strongly encourage those immediately affected by this proclamation to change your travel plans immediately and book travel back to the U.S. before the proposed entry restrictions take effect on Monday, March 16 at midnight (0400hrs GMT Tuesday). In addition, we strongly encourage everyone to follow the news and subsequent announcements from the White House and the Department of Homeland Security as you make your plans to return. Our local staff will keep students informed about this and any follow-up statements, and will continue to support them as they attempt to depart.
