In late January, due to the novel coronavirus outbreak that began in Wuhan, China, CIEE suspended all spring 2020 programs in China. Because last week the World Health Organization declared the outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, and travel restrictions designed to limit the spread of the coronavirus are unlikely to soon be lifted, CIEE has decided to suspend all of our summer 2020 programs in China, including High School Summer Study Abroad, College Study Abroad, Global Internships, and Faculty-led Programs.
We are doing what we can to help students connect with another opportunity that will meet their personal and academic goals this summer. For college students whose summer plans must change because of the suspension of CIEE’s summer programs in China, we are encouraging them to review the program alternatives we believe might be appealing to affected students, as well as the rest of CIEE’s summer portfolio.
For high school students confirmed to travel on a Chinese Language & Culture program, an alternate program based in Tainan, Taiwan will be launching in June. Students and scholarship recipients will also be given the opportunity to transfer their application or scholarship award to any other CIEE Global Navigator High School Summer Abroad program.
