Problems at Work
If you are having a problem with your job or coworkers, try to resolve it professionally. Speak with your manager in a constructive manner. As a new employee, you may encounter problems that your coworkers have already experienced. Speak to them about these issues; they may be able to give you advice that will help you resolve them quickly and harmlessly. If you need assistance, or feel that your employer is not being responsive, contact CIEE.
Sexual Harassment and Racial Discrimination
Remember that sexual harassment and racial discrimination are very serious matters in the U.S. If you feel that you have been the victim of either sexual harassment or racial discrimination in your workplace, contact CIEE.
Layoffs and Firings
You could be laid off (lose your job) for any number of reasons. Layoffs are often the result of financial issues within the company. For example, if business is slow, your employer may not need as many people working.
If you are fired, it is because the company is unhappy with your work performance or you broke an important rule at work. Most often, students are fired for being consistently uncooperative or for unacceptable behavior. Talk to your employer if you have any questions or contact CIEE to talk about any issues before they become serious problems.
If you are laid off or fired, you MUST contact CIEE right away at 1.888.268.6245.
