Open a Bank Account

CIEE recommends that you open a checking account at a local bank. When you open your account, ask about student discounts, such as no minimum balances and no ATM fees. Also, if your U.S. address changes, be sure to tell your bank and update www.mysevis.com.

The documents typically needed to open a bank account are:

• Passport and J-1 Visa
• DS-2019 Form
• I-94 Card
• Proof of Social Security Application
• A letter from your employer confirming employment may also be required
