Second Timers

Taking into account government regulations and the demand for the program in each country, eligibility of students who have already participated in a CIEE program is determined in conjunction with the local U.S. embassies and cannot be guaranteed by CIEE. Students wishing to come on a second Work & Travel Program should be aware that the government regulations on this issue are constantly changing.

The following categories of applicants are considered second-timers:

  • Past participants in CIEE's Work & Travel USA program
  • Past participants in another organization's Summer Work/Travel program (e.g. InterExchange's Work & Travel program, Work Experience USA, etc.)
  • Students who have previously worked as Summer Camp Support Staff (not as camp counselors)

Students in the following categories are not considered second-timers, and therefore they are eligible to apply for CIEE's Work & Travel USA Program:

  • Students who have participated in an au pair or Camp Counselor program (but not as Summer Camp Support Staff)
  • Students who have held a J-1 visa to study in a US high school, or a US College or University

Note: These programs are considered to be a different type of program to Work & Travel USA.
