Role of the Sponsor

As an organization designated by the US Department of State to administer the Intern/Trainee Program, CIEE assumes a number of duties and responsibilities. While our role was designed in large part to safeguard against program misuse, as a program sponsor we also foster successful completion of the internship or training program.

CIEE provides the following services:

• Host Organization and applicant vetting;
• Issuance of the “Certificate of Eligibility for J-1 Visa” (Form DS-2019) to successful applicants;
• Orientation materials for participants and Host Organizations;
• Health insurance through CIEE’s captive insurance company;
• General program support and 24-hour emergency support for participants and organizations;
• Regional networking events for interns, trainees and their supervisors;
• Ongoing program monitoring through evaluations;
• J-2 Visas for qualified participant dependents.
