How CIEE Operates

CIEE’s Global Representative Network

To help facilitate the process and to serve as a direct contact for prospective participants, applicants and local university and institutional contacts, CIEE partners with independent organizations throughout the world. In this respect, CIEE representative organizations play a key role in program marketing, participant recruitment and enrollment, and in participant support. Specifically, CIEE representatives have the following responsibilities:

  • Market program within defined territory (typically country-based)
  • Recruit candidates for specific CIEE services
  • Provide interested candidates with program information and application materials
  • Receive and pre-screen Trainee Program applications for basic suitability
  • Submit complete applications to CIEE for review and processing
  • Communicate directly with applicants during application process, providing them with updates on the status of their applications as they move through the process
  • Receive and forward program materials for successful applicants
  • Help participants obtain the J-1 visa from the local US Embassy or Consulate.
  • Serve as home-country contact in the event of an emergency

While these organizations do play a key role in the enrollment portion of this process, CIEE serves as the Legal Sponsor for all program participants and, as such, becomes the first point of contact once participants arrive in the US.

If you are interested in seeing if CIEE has a representative in certain countries of interest, you can do so by clicking on the following link: www.ciee.org/representatives

In those countries where CIEE does not have a relationship with a local representative, interested candidates can contact CIEE at info@ciee.org to learn more about and apply for the program.
