Program Requirements

As a participant in the J-1 Exchange Visitor Program you will be expected to complete a very specific set of program requirements. Some of these requirements, like the Trainee Program Orientation, must be completed prior to your arrival in the US. Other requirements must be met at various points throughout your program, and even once you have returned home. In order to participate in the Trainee Program you must:

• Be in possession of all required program documentation
• Complete the Trainee Program Orientation prior to your US arrival date
• Register your US address in the SEVIS database
• Apply for and receive your US Social Security number
• Complete all mandatory program evaluations
• Maintain sufficient funds during your program
• File a US income tax return
• Observe all travel restrictions associated with the J-1 Visa
