Finding Housing While some Host Companies offer housing as part of the Trainee’s compensation package, generally, most Trainees must secure their own living quarters in the US. There are many excellent resources for locating apartments in the US. Your primary resource for locating housing in your area of training should be a representative at your Host Company. They should be able to provide you with a list of local housing resources, and recommend quality neighborhoods and communities. If you choose to search for housing on your own, you will find that most US cities and towns have web listings where vacant apartments and homes are posted. Any community posting board, such as www.craigslist.com, should allow you to search through a large number of vacancies and find housing that is appropriate to your needs. Craigslist.com operates a community posting board in many major US cities, and is not limited to housing searches. In the US it is not at all uncommon for students and young professionals to share living space. Having a roommate is an excellent way to make your stay here in the US more affordable, and to develop your social network with relatively little effort. If you would like to find a roommate, there are many websites that will help you find a roommate in your location of interest. However, you should be aware that many of these sites charge a small fee. Free roommate matching services do exist. Check local newspapers and community posting boards such as Craigslist.com. As a final reminder, please do remember to book short-term accommodation prior to your departure from your home country if you have not already secured long-term housing. Availability of short-term housing cannot always be guaranteed and you want to make sure you have a place to stay during your first few days in the US. |
