If you plan to drive a car, you do need car insurance. There are certain companies that specialize in auto insurance for foreign students. The only national auto insurance for foreign nationals we are currently aware of is available through American Insurance Underwriters (AIU). Let them know your age when you discuss insurance options, as insurance for individuals under age 25 is more costly and individuals under the age of 21 are not eligible.

If you are driving in the US, you should also be in possession of an international driving license or a US driver’s license. More information may be obtained at the Department of Motor Vehicles for the state in which you are living.
