Extending your Trainee’s Program

If you feel that your current Trainee could benefit from additional time at your company, it is possible to extend their training program. Depending on your company’s resources and the trainee’s availability, the training program can extend to 18 months total.

To extend your Trainee’s program you must complete the CIEE Trainee Extension application. This application will include a supplement to your Trainee’s current Training Plan, which outlines the higher level training you plan on providing.

How to apply for an Extension

To apply for an extension, your Trainee must contact the CIEE representative through which they originally applied. The CIEE representative will provide them with extension application material. Click here to access a list of our overseas representatives: http://www.ciee.org/representatives/.

Extension applications must be submitted at least six weeks prior to the original training program end date, and must be completed by both the participant and the Host Company.

Once your trainee has completed his or her portion of the Extension Application, please complete the Host Company section by following the CIEE Trainee Extension Application instructions. Once the application is approved, CIEE will ship the new DS-2019 Certificate of Eligibility to the Host Company.
